This book is a sequel to the author's earlier description of individual trauma in Sri Lankan Tamils due to the civil war, titled Scarred Minds: The Psychological Impact of War on Sri Lankan Tamils, written in 1988-89 during the aftermath of the Indian intervention. The book was eventually published by SAGE Publication in 1998. This was a value addition title in the sage publication and well received by the researchers and readers. The author states that much has been happened since then; considerable blood has flown under the bridge. But much has remained the same-a sickening repetition of deaths, destruction, displacements, repression, terror and general misery. There has been a cycle of violence and ceasefires war and peace with low-intensity conflict always simmering in the back-ground and a 'final' battle in 2008-09 that has, one hopes, brought large-scale violence to an end. There was the massive natural disaster in the form of the tsunami of December 26, 2004. This book attempts to document the cumulative and collective effects of massive trauma but also looks at some of the background factors and psychosocial treatments.
