Personality, Spiritual Exercise and Cognitive-Behavioural Interventions in Enhancing Sports Performance

It is important to know which of the personality dimensions contribute most in the high level performance in the sports. Sport psychology concerns with the knowledge of sportsman's personality when made available may be useful in achieving excellence in sports.

The main aim of the present article is to explore the link between personality and sports performance that how different personality dimensions contribute differently to sports performance and in support of this I reviewed some scientific research studies. Besides we provide the information on how much sports have importance in our life and also provide some simple suggestions in order to improve the quality of sports performance.

The importance of sports in the life of young students is invaluable and goes much further than the basic answer that "it keeps kids off the streets." It does in fact keep kids off the streets, but it also in stills lessons that are essential in the life of a student athlete. Sports play a vital role in the makeup of a young athlete, especially in the middle school to high school years where student athletes are much more mature and mentally developed. The parents, teachers, sports teams, clubs, may be the most influential tools in the lives of young adults to help mold, develop, and instill these qualities into the lives of student athletes.

There are many people who do sports for recreation and pleasure. They regularly do sports; however, none of them realizes the benefits and importance of sports. Unfortunately, these people do not consider other benefits of sports. In my opinion, there are several benefits of sports that people often do not consider: sports are required to be healthy and fit people, are needed for enjoyment, and are great market for countries' economies, develop team spirit, make people mentally strong, use the time in a constructive way, inculcates self-confidence, enable people to take quick decisions.

Benefits of sports

There are several advantages and benefits of sports. First, sports are required by people to be fit, smart, and good looking. Second, sports are entertaining due to many facts. Third, sports are the huge market for countries' economies. Fourth, when children or adults play team sports, be it cricket or hockey, they learn to work in groups. They learn that if the team wins, they win and if the team loses the game, they lose. In this way they learn that how to work in groups. Fifth, Sports makes people mentally strong as success and failure are both parts of sports as well as of life. A sportsperson knows how to handle defeat and thus learns how to treat success and failure equally. This is an important lesson of the life. Beside this, another importance of sports for children or for adults is that it teaches them how to handle competition, and be fearless when facing the adversaries. Sixth, Children and adolescents boost their physical energy. When they are involved in sports, their physical energies are used up in a constructive way. If adolescents are given free time they might get involved in wrong activities or may fall in bad company or may also display antisocial behavior. Thus it is clear that sports are also important for the society because it keeps adolescents from becoming antisocial element. Seventh, Sports inculcates self-confidence in a person. When a person excels in a particular sport, he becomes very self-confident. Sports inculcate discipline, dedication and responsibility in him, which he is able to apply in other areas of life as well. This makes him achieve success in every sphere of life, thus sports make a person more confident. Eighth, in sports, a person has to make quick decisions depending upon the situation of the sport that he is in so; a person who is involved in sports is able to make quick and wise decisions in other situations of life as well and soon.
