The book has five parts examining in the first part basic knowledge in the area of children' and adolescents' development, together with theories and research methods in child development. The other four parts examine three different areas of child development, physical, cognitive, and social emotional, during the four specific time periods - infancy and toddler-hood, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence. The book is therefore organized in thirteen chapters. Every chapter has a section called Connecting with ( 'hi!dren A dolescenls. that provides guidelines and examples and also a section called Relating to Every Child/Adolescent which is aimed to honouring the diversity of children. The book is well written as educational textbook but is also source of the latest knowledge based on scientific research. At the same time it is interesting for reader, motivational for learner and valuable educational tool for teachers. For example, it has also point/counterpoint section on current, interesting, and sometimes controversial themes, such as: Using Corporal Punishment to Promote Prosocial Behavior in Chapter 7; What are Children Learning from Television in Chapter 10; Abstinence-Only Sex Education in Chapter 11.

Each chapter starts with The Casebook and Ovennew and Objectives, and has Summary and Key Terms at the end of chapter, enabling a student being focused on study objectives. A book is accompanied with many photos, figures and illustrations, but special gift to the reader is the presentation of children's art used for the cover and the opening page of each chapter. …
