The captain there, I swear, he's in love with a saw

tuning in circular to mitre songs of a wounding.

But the saw, I see, has designs on a hand plane.

Plainer, of course, though she has her appeal,

lolling with Safety Pin-Up Girl '95

beside cobweb, sawdust, final letters, knives.

I will not parley with the spirit level.

I will make no metaphor that you need to unscrew.

But then I know how to talk through a parallel jaw.

A gang of planks leans up against the wall.

The planks may be lost boys or no boys at all.

Captain Hook flirts, only briefly, with wingnuts-

an after effect of all that business with fairies-

recalls Peter bleeding through juvenile hall.

In a reverie of tick tocks

he knocks over white paint. Coming in colours

like Cream, Duck Egg, Fig Slut, Pain, Sob

and Bone. Houses painted never-never--are rainbows.

The gang that is spanked regresses to pine trees. …
