Fm so pleased to be able to present Volume 46 of the Yearbook for Traditional Music, my first as general editor. It's an honour to be entrusted with the stewardship of ajournai with such an illustrious history, and I thank the ICTM Executive Board for its confidence in me.

My home institution, Memorial University of Newfoundland, has been strongly supportive of this editorship, and I'm particularly grateful for its support of an editorial assistant in the person of Rebecca Draisey-Collishaw. Completion of this volume would not have been possible without her sharp-eyed and goodnatured assistance. I am grateful to the ICTM Secretariat for allowing me to work with Graham Blair, whose experience in journal layout has been tremendously reassuring. Special thanks are also due to David Mercer at Memorial University's QEII Library Map Room.

My mentor in all tilings related to the Yearbook has been Don Niles, my predecessor as general editor. He lent me a sure hand in the lead-up to the production of this volume, answering all of my questions with speed, patience, and gentle humour. Don provided everything I needed to bring this volume together, so any faults that lurk within are a reflection of my newcomer status, not Don's generous tutelage. …
