This edition of Caxton's Ovid was edited from Cambridge Magdalene College, Old Library, MS F.4.34, and is presented alongside a parallel text of the Ovide moralisé en prose II, which was edited from Paris, Bibliothèque nationale Française, MS fonds français 137. Caxton's edition in Middle English, completed in 1480, is a translation of the French version, which is one of the many medieval texts to have allegorized Ovid's Metamorphoses. The introduction provides details on the Middle English and French editions of the text, as well as Caxton's choice of texts and translation technique.
