THE CHILDREN'S LITERATURE ASSEMBLY has lost a dear friend and tireless leader, but she will not be forgotten. Those who knew Lettie Albright will remember a kind and gentle soul, one who fostered a sense of collegiality, enthusiasm, and confidence among all around her.

Lettie began her service with CL A in 2003 as webmaster. Once elected to the board in 2005, she was chosen to be secretary (2007-2009) and then president (2010-2012). Her attention to detail and collaborative leadership style contributed to our organization's strength and vitality. From planning to execution of the many CLA events and initiatives, Lettie could be counted on to engage colleagues, facilitate a productive discussion, reply with an artfully crafted email, and lend a helping hand. She was a master in the fine art of inspiration and a true leader in every sense of the word.

Lettie earned her doctorate in curriculum and instruction, majoring in reading/language arts, from Ohio University. After teaching in the public schools of Ohio and West Virginia, she joined the faculty of Texas Woman's University in 2000 where she achieved the rank of professor in the Department of Reading. …
