Staying in a little cabin in the city.

Confused by windshield wipers squealing

blent a metal machine

clapped to a chain-link fence in the night,

and stannic croaks

and voltaic alarms them

electric birds

Over by the Sheraton,

the water is moving fast,

constrained by big and round

or sharp rocks, another element

leaping against itself.

Deep, evening breaths

in these hard, wet sheets

of evening help a little-the chest

will permit these moments room

and also pass them on.

Even forks can be my forks

in part without a wound.

Elegy not only an expression of lack ...

an expression of change.

But we are terrified of spring. …
