Adele Shank was one of the founding editors of TheatreForum in 1992 and played a major role in shaping the journal's character right up until her death on 27 November 2104. She worked with other editors, including founding editor Theodore Shank, her husband, to sustain the journal's characteristic combination of articles discussing new performance works and innovative new playtexts. In particular, she was the editor primarily responsible for finding and securing the two (sometimes three) new plays published in every issue. She was uniquely qualified for this role.

She was herself a playwright of note. Her numerous plays include those in the acclaimed California Series-six independent but interconnected plays set in various California locations. Her plays have been produced at theatres in the US and England, including four times at the Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival. …
