I don't buy that shit about giving voice

to the voiceless promised by the Messiahs

of pitch-perfect windproof hair and invisible

wallets and sugar-free gum.

And hearing aids, well, they're just

so expensive, and easily lost, so.

And the megaphones and microphones-

tap, tap, tap, is this thing on, can you

hear me out there? And all you get back

is either, you talking to me? Or

can you tone it down some? Variation

in tone, a luxury sedan speeding away.

Don't blame it on the acoustics

or the pensioners or the square mileage

or the ancient infrastructure. I lack

all authority, but I'm just getting started.

Somebody tried to cut me off after fourteen

lines, but I drive fast. And if I shouted

him down, can you blame me? …
