Each spring, AAFCS Affiliates submit annual reports; throughout the year, excerpts from these reports are featured by AAFCS as a way to highlight our affiliates and the vital role they play in connecting family and consumer sciences professionals on a local level!

A professional development state conference was held in February, 2015, which included conference sessions, roundtable discussions, and special sessions for students. The conference sessions covered many content areas within the discipline of FCS, including the following topics:

* Organic Foods: Are they healthier than conventional foods?

* Teaching fashion without a sewing machine

* Family forest: Researching your genealogy

* Taking the mystery out of financial planning

* What's the connection? Career Tech at the middle/secondary level and the FCS at the post-secondary level.

* Examining sources of stress in same-sex parents

The roundtable discussions brought together members from various human services agencies in the Birmingham area that work to bring awareness of societal issues facing individuals, families, and our communities. …
