A Study on the Changing Values among Women Students in Present Society

Introduction

Irrespective of the inhibitions against the women since independence the trend of literacy among women would reveal that female education was on the way to gradual progress. It is also observed that with development of Indian economy the status of Indian women has gone to a higher level during the last four decades.

Review of Related Literature

As Sarojini Naidu stated in 1960, "It is not you men but we who are the true nation builders". Now the Indian women are proudly entering into every sphere of human activity and are enriching it by her valuable contribution. The social life of India has gained tremendously by the emancipation of women and it has become rich and more likable than the social life of earlier times, when they lived a cribbed and confined life in the four walls of home.

Statement of the Problem

The title of the problem is "A Study on the changing values among women students in present society".

The invest igation is intended to answer the following questions specifically.

1. Is there any difference in the changing values of rural and urban students towards value system?

2. Is there any difference in the changing values of science and arts students towards value system?

Objectives of the Present Study

The investigator has formulated the following objectives:

1. To find out the changing values among women students.

2. To find out the difference between changing values of rural and ur ban d egree college women students.

3. To find out the difference b between changing values of arts and science groups degree college women students.

Hypotheses of the Present Study

1. There is no significant difference in the values of rural and urban degree women college students.

2. There is no significant difference in the values of arts and science group degree college women students.

Limitations of the Present Study

1. The present study is limited to only degree women students.

2. The present study is limited to only Rural, Urban degree college.

3. The present study is limited to only Kadapa District.

4. The present study is confined to 150 women students studying in various degree college of Kadapa Districts.

Tool Selected for the Present Study

For the present study, the investigator adopted the standardized tool prepared by Dr. Mrs. Haseen Taj. The tool consists of 48 items covering the areas- social values and family values, cultural values, Educational Values, religious values and marriage values. This tool is most relevant to the present study. So the investigator selected this tool for the present study to collect the data.

Administration of the Tool

After the preparation of the questionnaire with 48 statements, it was administered to 150 women students studying in degree colleges of Kadapa district. The investigator visited the colleges to the maximum extent possible and gathered the data. The list of colleges from where the sample was drawn is shown in the appendix. After giving instructions to the women students, the investigator requested each women student to give their response for each statement by putting a tick mark in appropriate box that is given opposite to each statement.

Analysis, Discussions and Findings

Discussion

The obtained t-value is 2.769. It is more than the table values. Hence it is significant at both levels. It shows that there is significant difference between rural and urban degree college women students in their values systems.

Findings

There is no significant difference between the levels of rural and urban Degree College women students in their value systems.

Hence, Null hypothesis is rejected.
