This issue comprises four research papers, first section of an English translation of the Court News of 'ÄlamgTr about the Deccan and an obituary.

Mr. Ananda Bikash Chakma (Bangladesh) has presented a study of the 'Chittagong Hill Tracts' political issues on the partition of South Asian Subcontinent (1947) in his research paper entitled "Partition of India, Incorporation of Chittagong Hill Tracts into Pakistan and the Politics of Chakmas: A Review". Some Chakma leaders were keen to remain in India along with Tripura. However, the Indian National Congress leaders including Gandhi, Nehru etc. remained uninterested. When some of the Chakma leaders tried on their own, to declare them as part of India on 14 August 1947, a small army operation by Pakistan rectified the situation. The author shows that the Chakma fears of religious persecution by Pakistan remained unfounded.

From Pakistan, Mr. Himayatullah Yaqubi discusses the "Leftist Politics in Pakistan: Orientation and Unification in the First Decade". He also analyses factors for its ineffective growth in .the national politics which eventually allowed the space left by its decay to be overtaken by the conservative parties and by ultra right groups. …
