(Linda Stanton, who is in charge of EAIA book sales, received this note in May from John McDonald. He has been an EAIA member since 1988. She says, "He has bought literally tons of books from me. This had to have been a devastating blow to him." Shavings publishes this note in hope that a member can be helpful to Mr. McDonald.)

Dear Linda,

Could you please send me a new booklist? We were amongst the victims of the bushfires on Saturday, January 18. Four lives and five hundred homes were lost in just a couple of hours, half of these in our suburb, just about one house in three. Both [my wife] Priscilla and I were away at the time. There was nothing left on our return - just ash and some burnt metal. The house was a burnt out shell. The garage, all the sheds, even the fences, and most of the trees were all gone along with every tool, book, document and record.

There were around 10,000 tools and over 2,000 books on tools and trades plus all my book stock. …
