Raymund Wilelm has collected a group of essays focusing on the exploitation of the different manuscript versions of a single text for the analysis of linguistic variation. The approach promoted by Wilhelm in his introduction concentrates on the high-quality information potentially provided by manuscript copies: the relationship between the author's version and the scribal one may be sometimes interpreted as an analogical type of minimal pair, the basic form of meaningful opposition. The task of interpreting variation and discerning the significant material can be undertaken following the model proposed by Eugenio Coseriu in his ground-breaking Textlinguistik. …
