It's inevitable. When I see people out and about these days, they ask me the same two questions: when will the exciting work be done at the VHS? And when are you reopening? The short answers to those two questions are "July" and "We never really closed."

We are on schedule for all construction to be finished in early July. And yes, I cross fingers and toes as I write this. But in truth, most of the work is already done. Of course, the Carole and Marcus Weinstein Learning Center has been in operation since last fall and regularly hosts school groups, See You in Class evening programs, and our award-winning distance learning initiative HistoryConnects, which reaches audiences across Virginia, around the country, and as far away as Sweden and Croatia.

Although the Learning Center may have been open a while, those of you who attended the March premiere of our new film, Virginia Voices, were able to see other work that has been completed. The galleries sparkle after their renovation, including the new Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Gallery, which in October will host the exhibition Dressing Downton: Changing Fashion for Changing Times. …
