NADE Leaders Address Harvard Symposium

Several leaders from the National Association for Developmental Education participated in a special symposium on developmental education held in October at Harvard's Gutman Conference Center. The symposium was sponsored by the U.S. Office of Education and hosted by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The purpose of the symposium was twofold: to promote and publicize developmental education and how it fits into today's educational system and to promote connections between developmental education and additional areas/levels of education, community, government agency, and workplace learning initiatives. The event was coordinated by the Secretary of Education's Regional Representative Jan Paschal and Workplace Learning Spin Co-Chair Gayle Manchin.

Martha Casazza, NADE president-elect, and Hunter Boylan and David Arendale, both pastpresidents of NADE, presented papers focusing on who developmental education serves, how services have been and are being rendered, and what goals developmental educators hold for the future, respectively. …
