This book offers an interesting and valuable exploration of what Julian Agyeman terms 'just' sustainability. Beginning with a reference to the Brundtland Commision Report, he argues that the sustainability agenda is dominated by an environmental discourse, but he promotes instead what he calls 'just sustainability', which more explicitly considers questions of how social needs, welfare and economic opportunity are related to environmental limits imposed by supporting ecosystems. Within the first chapter, Agyeman argues the case for a just sustainabilities approach from a theoretical perspective; he then moves on to explore just sustainabilities through the themes of food, space and place, and culture, finishing in his final chapter with an exploration of an alternative economic model, co-production. Throughout, Agyeman provides a range of useful, up-to-date case studies, using them to explore policy and consider practical pathways for moving forward. …
