British Cities comprises a general introduction and overview penned by Michael Pacione followed by two main parts and a summary or ?prospective'. Part I is entitled ?The Structural Context of Urban Division' and is made up of five chapters by different authors which deal, respectively, with global restructuring and the local impact, national economic policy, national social policy, urban planning, and a view from the grassroots. Part II is called the ?Planes of Division* and contains eight chapters covering income and wealth, housing, health, crime, ethnicity, age, gender, and politics and governance. Part III provides a prospective on ?How to Bridge the Great Divide' by Pacione himself, drawing on the various analyses in the book, and pointing the way forward. …
