An addition to the very useful TEAMS text series, but also representing a departure from previous TEAMS practice, this volume contains editions of two distinct manuscript versions of the Middle English Fair Unknown romance Lybeaus Desconus. The poem is preserved in six manuscripts in total: the two versions here are from London, Lambeth Palace, MS 306, written around 1460, and Naples, Biblioteca Nazionale, MS XIII.B.29, from 1457. The poem's closest analogue is the late twelfth-century Old French poem Li Biaus Descouneüs by Renaut de Bâgé, and the editors devote some of the introduction to outlining the differences between the 'Frensshe tale' and the English versions. …
