AGA to Establish Academy for Government Accountability

The Association of Government Accountants is working to establish an Academy for Government Accountability to serve as the central clearinghouse for government financial management education.

The establishment of the academy is in response to the drastic changes that have occurred in the government financial management environment in recent years. The enactment of legislation to improve government financial management, the development of core competencies for financial managers and the evolving role of financial managers are some of the more significant changes. The increasing emphasis on professional certification and professional development is a central theme in the increased importance and visibility of government financial management.

Over the years, AGA has been a leader in providing continuing professional education. Using its volunteer members, AGA has developed and delivered quality conferences, seminars and courses designed to support the professional development needs of government financial managers.

Today, however, the Association requires an organized approach to bring together not only its volunteer course developers and faculty, but also external education providers and faculty, professional associations and the academic community to meet the growing professional development needs of the government financial management community. …
