Leader and New Achiever Awards Reinstated for 2017!

In October 2015, the AAFCS Board approved a motion to reinstate the Leader and New Achiever Awards for 2017. Affiliates are urged to select their candidates in the coming months for submission in January 2017. Because of the twoyear suspension of the awards, the Awards and Recognition Committee (ARC) has decided that affiliates may submit more than one candidate for each of these awards for 2017. The ARC is aware that some affiliates have continued to have Leader and New Achiever Award recipients each of the past two years and these individuals are eligible for consideration at the national level.

The Leader Award began with the AAFCS 75th Anniversary in 1984, when it was established to identify and honor family and consumer sciences professionals who have made significant contributions to the field through their involvement with AAFCS. This award is for active AAFCS Professional members with eight (8) or more years of service to the field. Nominations may be made by an AAFCS affiliate, community, committee, or unit.

The New Achiever Award was also introduced at the 75th Anniversary in 1984. The program was developed to recognize emerging professionals exhibiting the potential to make significant contributions to family and consumer sciences. Any active Professional AAFCS member who has earned a family and consumer sciences degree and completed three (3) to eight (8) years of service to the field is eligible to receive this award. …
