Why AAFCS Annual Conferences Matter!

Why should you go to the AAFCS 2016 Annual Conference & Expo in Bellevue, WA, this summer? After attending the past three AAFCS conferences, I realized that I have gained invaluable experiences and connected with countless professionals from across the country.

Heading into my first conference in Houston in the summer of 2013, I wasn't sure what an "adult/professional" conference would have in store for me. Like many of you, I had attended many FCCLA conferences but I had not yet experienced a national conference since I started at the University of Georgia.

At that 2013 conference, I attended many sessions and learned new topics in not only my own field of Foods and Nutrition, but also in the many fields of family and consumer sciences (FCS) that interest me (which I don't necessarily get to take classes in during the school year).

I was already excited to see what the 2014 AAFCS Conference & Expo in St. Louis would hold for me before the Houston conference even ended! In St. Louis, MO, in the summer of 2014,1 made better connections with college students from across the United States and explored the city. We even went to the St. Louis Zoo and visited several museums.

After being elected Fist Vice Chair for the AAFCS Student Unit Board during the following school year, I knew the AAFCS 2013 Annual Conference & Expo in Jacksonville, FL, would be the best one yet. …
