Welcome to the 18th issue, volume number 2, of New Waves-Educational Research and Development (NWERD)! We are excited and honored to take over as coeditors-in-chief of NWERD. We would like to thank former editor-in-chief, Dr. Binbin Jiang, for her knowledge and guidance as we transitioned this fall. NWERD will continue to produce two issues a year-a special issue together with a regular issue. In this regular issue, we present four articles under the Articles section and one book review in the Book Reviews section. We would also like to thank Dr. Guofang Wan as she continues her role of Book Reviews Editor.

The current issue is noteworthy in many respects. In the Articles section, the four articles address various topics related to diversity including: supporting dual language learners in early childhood classrooms, preschool children's understanding of multicultural picture books, recruitment of teachers in an urban residency program, and an examination of university faculty's perceptions of diversity and campus climate. In the first article, Kelly examines an important topic in today's society, that of dual language learners (DLLs) in the classroom. The study used qualitative methods to examine the use of language support practices in preschool classrooms. The study found that teachers must be intentional in their practices when teaching and providing scaffolding for DLLs. The overarching significant finding that emerged from this study was that of intentionality. More specifically, in order to scaffold DLLs' learning and provide a rich language environment, teachers must be intentional in their practices. Being a good teacher does not guarantee that a teacher knows what is appropriate or effective for the DLLs in his/her class. A major implication for teacher education programs is to offer coursework to ensure preservice teachers have the appropriate training.

The second article by Chen and Browne also used qualitative research methods to examine preschool children's responses to multicultural picture books in order to learn how preschool children attempt to make meaning about illustrations and textual features related to themes of culture. The study found that children were able to engage in and enjoy multicultural literature; and that they were very open in discussing the text and their lives. The authors contend that multicultural literature should be used to develop cultural awareness and sensitivity among young children and ultimately will prepare them in dealing with their future world.

The third article by Marshall and Scott examines the factors for successful recruitment in an urban residency program. …
