David M. King was born on December 10, 1960 at Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He grew up in St. Claire Shores, Michigan and came to a saving knowledge of Christ at the age of nine or ten through his parents.

David was graduated from the University of Michigan at Dearborn in 1981, where he majored in music, with a specialty in choir. It was in the choir that he met Nora Krajewski, also a music major. David and Nora were married in Detroit on May 25, 1985. One son, Jonathan, was born to this union. He was eight years old when David passed away.

David served as assistant pastor of Healing for the Nations Christian Church in Roseville, Michigan from 1983-1991, and took his theological education at Ashland Theological Seminary, receiving the M.Div. in 1991. David, Nora and son Jonathan moved to England in 1991 where David completed his Ph.D. at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford three years later. His specialization was 17th century English theology.
