In January four distinguished Virginians began six-year terms on the Society's board of trustees. Shirley Carter Olsson of West Point did her undergraduate work in chemistry and German at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Jamestowne Society, she serves on the boards of Westminster Canterbury in Richmond and Irvington, the Massey Cancer Center, and the Medical College of Virginia Foundation. L. Dudley Walker of Martinsville is a graduate of North Carolina State University and served as chairman, president, and CEO of Bassett-Walker, Inc., from 1960 until 1987, when he retired from active management. Crestar's board benefits from his advice as director.

The two other trustees elected will hardly be strangers to members of the historical society. Herbert A. Claiborne, Jr., received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Virginia and has been on the medical staff both there and at the Medical College of Virginia. …
