In this poetic celebration of food, there are poems about picnics, picky eaters, and parties. Every poem is oozing with delicious words and different literary devices. The poem "Welcome to Watermelon Lake" is illustrated with a large slice of watermelon and a party of ants. One ant is sunning in a lounge chair on the rind with a couple of ants building a sand castle nearby. The small black seeds represent boats with ants riding the juicy pink waves. A few ants swim or tread water. The poem begins, "It's icy cold, so our advice/is take a breath and don't think twice./ Just jump right in-you'll never sink-/and did we mention that it's PINK?" Twenty more whimsical poems are about baked potato canoes, strawberry jam, mac and cheese, guacamole, and brownies, ensuring everyone will become hungrier as they read. …
