This wacky and wild poetry collection is full of nonsense poems that will tickle the funny bone and cause lots of chuckles. Organized around nine themes, such as "The Critterverse," "Word Crashes," or "Miscellaneous Silliness," the 85 poems are on topics from minotaurs to biscotti to gnomes. Brown uses rhyme, rhythm, homonyms, alliteration, interesting vocabulary, and puns. One poem titled "Carsick" goes like this: "Car rides have always/been awful for me./I try not to look,/ but as soon as I see/that the needle is pointing/ to forty-three/ on the ol' speedometer,/I'm a vomiter" (p. 55). Each poem is accompanied by a zany illustration that adds more details and information. In addition, the borders include mini-drawings with delightful footnotes or jokes that connect to the poems. …
