We clipped them into the car

pulled the loose-limbed belts over

precious organs and i drove.

the white perforations rose

striped the road and punctuated

minutes, each green numbered sign

sounded out from Q to f.

A new driver, i am always confident

and surprised by lanes and turns

you'd think i knew what i was-

we stopped. i looked back, she grinned.

i have her sometimes, a very new addition

to my familiar morning invasion

the shuff ly bum bedroom greeting

that children make (before the jump).

two little people peeled off the seats

shoes off socks off sand squeaked

balked at the shore.

the sea is no place for manners.

Fast the skirts, pants were off

their undies drenched my jean bottoms dark

with the slight drag of tide.

the prance of ballerina feet into uncertain water.

Your voice lunged a life buoy out to warn

of depths they found unthinkable. …
