The Jacket is a realistic fiction book. It takes place at a school and the book gets its name because there is confusion about whether a jacket belongs to Phil or Daniel. Phil says the jacket belongs to his little brother and Daniel says he is a liar because it is his jacket that his grandmother gave him for his birthday. They get into a pushing fight and both of them have to go to see the principal.

There is also a problem because Daniel is an African American and Phil is white. That's a problem because in their neighborhood, the two groups of people don't really understand each other. A new vocabulary word I learned in this book is prejudiced. I found out that it means when you do stuff different because a person is not the same as you are. That's what was happening in this neighborhood.
