Pablo is the new kid in school again, having moved frequently from one city to another for his father's job. His first day of school in Manhattan is the same day as a class fieldtrip to the Empire State Building. Determined not to become friendly with anyone and describing himself as a "lone wolf," Pablo withdraws from his peers. Acutely perceiving his underlying uneasiness and loneliness, his gregarious classmate Alicia attempts to befriend him. Though Pablo remains surly and aloof, Alicia persists in reaching out to him and even follows him when he mistakenly boards the express train instead of the local one, losing the rest of the class.
