For René Char

Time incarnadine opens pristine passages

With recyclables undergoing metamorphosis

Carrot Top flippant mimics me while

Impressions burp slushy new worlds

The shaven midnight ocean foam glows

Lava flows burning upward from shorebirds

Automated magnanimity dons cosmic love

Rendering words useless as inert volcanoes

We're herded like goats from fluttered eyelids

As anthracite churches get fresh whitewash

To be haunted and hung in the riven snow

With pleasures withdrawn into sun's follicles

Misaligned light is on target for a change

Despite passions planted in a fickle empyrean

Wheat gets wept by shepherds shorn of grief

Because cannibals ate every available man

Pretensions upon which you were sold insolvent

After stones flash when attacked by lightning

Most membranes are remnants of dead memories

I'm filtering through obstructionist razzle-dazzle

A cleanup crew well on the way from heaven

So no advantage in collecting expired stardust

The lascivious lilac locked lips with infinity

And gallantry was at last given a chance

Keeping faith until hatred is deflected allows

The supple sea to powder a baby's bottom

It's so restful down in the diamond grove

I'd just as well stay here unless I grow old
