In The Gender of Sexuality, Pepper Schwartz and Virginia Rutter examine the often ignored intersections of gender and sexuality. Although part of a sociological series, "The Gender Lens," this book is an excellent choice for educators and practitioners in a variety of fields. Written as a resource for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals, The Gender of Sexuality brings together useful and timely information from diverse areas of study. No new data are analyzed, but topics such as sexual desire, sexual behavior, sexual relationships inside and outside marriage, and the politics of sexuality are explored through a sociological, gendered lens. Extant stereotypes about gender and sex are exposed, and the ongoing battle over nature versus nurture is conceptualized in new ways.

Written in an approachable and understandable manner, this book explores the influences of masculinity and femininity on sexual desire and sexual behavior.
