Starting from the premiss that `the medieval Iberian Peninsula was remarkable for its political, religious, cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity' (p. xxv), the editor has assembled, in translation, a total of sixty-five texts originally written in Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, and the Romance vernaculars. They are grouped in eight chronological sections, and a secondary classification according to subject area (e.g. Conquest and reconquest; Urban life and town administration; Money, property, and economic life) is also provided (pp. xv-xxii). Other useful adjuncts include comprehensive genealogical tables, a glossary, and a bibliography. …
