This outstanding, newly released second edition follows up on the excellent first edition which I read and used in several graduate-level public health classes. It is well designed in a user-friendly format for both students and professors in classroom application. Each chapter begins with a comprehensive introduction and ends with a concise summary as a conclusion. Each chapter is also richly cited at the end with substantial amounts of additional readings available on every topic, useful for students engaged in developing and advancing research ideas of their own and writing their required research papers for classes. Students have also reported the book is advantageous when researching extant literature support for the variables they will use in their doctoral dissertation research.

This book, however, is not just for students and professors; it is also a valuable reading resource for industrialists, public policy developers, and even politicians. Although the book does contain complex mathematical formulas and excellently designed, but, complex graphics, this does not deter significantly from the readability of topics for readers who are not scientifically prepared. …
