To the Conradians who have published their monographs and articles in the series "Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives":

Dear colleagues and friends!

After the death of professor Stephen Fischer-Galati, the director of East European Monographs, which, jointly with Maria Curie-Sklodowska University Lublin, published volumes 1-22 of "Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives" (distributed by Columbia University Press New York) this publishing house was closed and the Conrad series ceased to exist. I brought it to life again when I was instrumental in signing a distribution agreement between Maria Curie-Sklodowska University (as its sole publisher) and Columbia University Press. Within this agreement, volumes 23 (2014) and 24 (2015) were published. However, in this new configuration, the costs of publication to be met by Maria Curie-Sklodowska University are significantly higher. We fix the publication costs at a minimal level: we pay no honoraria to authors of monographs and articles, authors of peer reviews, the editor of the series and the editors of volumes. But we must cover the cost of typesetting, printing and binding the books and their transportation to Columbia University Press for distribution. I have applied for grants to quite a few sources of funding in Poland but without success. A most severe blow came a few days ago when my grant application to the National Board for Advancement of Humanities at Polish Ministry of University Education was turned down (though, according to some, it had a great chance of success). The reason for rejections has been always the same: as the series promotes international studies in Conrad it should seek international funding. …
