This impressive Festschrift, dedicated to one of the most ground-breaking and influential scholars of late medieval French literature, is remarkable in more ways than one. Perhaps most strikingly, it emulates the subject of some of Cerquiglini-Toulet's most important work - Guillaume de Machaut - in providing a double dedicatory acrostic. The first acrostic, constructed largely of lines taken from Machaut's Voir Dit, implies a communication from the great poet himself to his modern interpreter and appends the opening two verses of one of his most famous rondeaux: 'Guillaume à Jacqueline. …
