Once again we are drawing close to the time to issue the call for papers to be featured in the Emerging Scholars Forum at the Annual Conference of The Hymn Society, this year in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

We are looking for submissions that investigate issues related to the practice, philosophy (theology), history, and/or context of congregational song. For more information, see: http://www.thehymnsociety.org/emerging-scholars-forum

If you are thinking of topics to investigate, it might be helpful to remember that 2017 is the year where we remember the revitalizing work of Martin Luther (1483-1546) as well as commemorating the 150th anniversary of Canada where diversity and mutual respect are cherished.

If you happen to be teaching, please help extend this call for papers to your students. I know they will find this experience highly rewarding. Here's a brief comment from a recent Emerging Scholars Forum participant who wrote, "Thank you for the opportunity to present at the Conference and to receive such thorough and helpful commentary. Such experiences are invaluable for young academics" (Andrew-John Bethke, University of South Africa).

Following discussions at our recent Executive Committee meeting, we are also interested in receiving submissions on research topics that are longer than 6,000 words. These would be peer-reviewed and archived within the Occasional Papers corpus of The Hymn Society. …
