Supporting Public Awareness Initiatives on the Health Effects of Climate Change and Air Pollution

This column features important events and notes of interest occurring at the Canadian Public Health Association National Office.

For many years, the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) has declared its concern for environmental quality on a global scale, recognizing this as an issue with enormous public health implications.

Currently, CPHA in partnership with Environment Canada and Health Canada has embarked upon a project that specifically addresses the critical issue of climate change, air pollution and their effects on human health.

"Supporting Public Awareness Initiatives on the Health Effects of Climate Change and Air Pollution" is a project that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing Canadians' awareness of these issues, changing attitudes and encouraging responsible action.

Over the next nine months and with the support of groups such as the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Nurses Association, the Canadian School Boards' Association, Friends of the Earth, and TransAlta Corporation, CPHA will conduct a survey in four sectors across Canada. …
