Canadian Woman Studies vol. 13, no. 4 (Summer 1993). Special Issue: Women and Disability.

There are four sections in this issue of writings on women and disability. The first section, "Beginnings," includes an article by Pat Israel which looks at "The Disabled Women's Movement 1983 to 1993" and an article by Sharon Dale Stone which discusses the meanings of disability for women. The second section called "Voices" reveals the variety of disabled women's experiences. "An Indonesian Experience" by Wahyu Handayani, "Body Image: Then and Now: My Experience of Disability in Argentina" by Sara Leiserson, "Snapshots from the Margins: Women With Disabilities in El Salvador" by Patricia Pardo-Demiantschuk, "Women With Disabilities in Bangladesh" by Anika Rahman and Polloby Ahmed and "Marriage-able? Cultural Perspectives of Women With Disabilities of South Asian Origin" by Linda Nancoo all explore the interconnections between disability, women and different cultures. "Margins Are Not For Cowards" by Cheryl Gibson, "The First Step Is To Be Noticed" by Dianne Pothier and "Coming Out of Two Closets" by Jane Field discuss the writers' personal experiences with trying to counteract the ways people and society have marginalized them. …
