It may affect an elite athlete training for competition at international level or it may affect a former potato who has recently forsaken the couch for a pair of sports shoes. Injury is the common enemy of anyone trying to attain their physical potential. Sporting careers are ended by injury and other people, training at a lower level, injure themselves while completing simple exercises. Physical educators are not only concerned with preventing injury. Sensible rehabilitation of injuries involves science, resources, and co-operation between athletes, trainers, and any number of associated agencies. Our feature article examines some of the main issues around sports injury, offering food for thought to readers concerned with recent developments in this aspect of PE.

The builders of the new gymnasium at Michael Park School in Auckland were also concerned with injury prevention. The application of new technology has reduced the likelihood of injury to the students using this facility. …
