The Handbook of Sexuality-Related Measures is an extensive review of over 200 instruments measuring a wide variety of human sexuality issues. The handbook provides an in-depth description of measures in such areas as knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, satisfactions, identities, functioning, fantasy, desire, communication, and compatibility. Measures are alphabetically arranged by topic area. Instrument descriptions were provided by the authors of the instruments and the editors acknowledge several limitations. First, there are potentially useful instruments that were not included because authors did not provide descriptions or copyright permission was not obtained. Second, in areas where a number of measures were available, some were not included because of space limitations and costs. Third, other measures were not included because they lack reliability and construct validity data. Fourth, measures of some important constructs are not available in the literature.

The summaries include the purpose of the measure and a description of general format and use. Response mode and the approximate length of time required for completion are provided and a description is given of the instrument scoring. Most summaries include a detailed description of reliability and construct validity but this information is not available for all of the measures. …
