The beginning of each year brings a changing of the guard for the historical society's governing board. This year we welcome our new trustees, say farewell to two who rotate off the board, and salute new officers.

C. Phillip Barger of Waynesboro, a graduate of the United States Military Academy, has been president and chairman of Barger Insurance. He has been a board member of the Augusta Hospital Corporation, the Virginia Port Authority, and the Augusta County Historical Society. Susan S. Goode of Norfolk graduated from Duke University and has been a schoolteacher and officer in the League of Women Voters of Virginia. Currently she serves as a director of the Virginia Symphony, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the YWCA, and Virginia Wesleyan College. Eddie N. Moore, Jr., of Ettrick received his undergraduate degree from Penn State and his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. A Vietnam veteran, he has held financial posts at Gulf Oil, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the College of William and Mary. He is now president of Virginia State University.

Two of the new trustees are familiar faces. E. Claiborne Robins, Jr., president and CEO of E. C. Robins International, Inc., returns to the board for another term after his previous service from 1993 to 1998. …
