WITH over half of Europe's prosperity being created by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) a new project is helping them tap in to e-business opportunities across Europe.

e-POWER is a pan-European network of Regional Technology Centres (RTCs) specialising in information and communications technologies (ICT) for the engineering and manufacturing sectors. It was created thanks to 642 k funding from the Information Society Technology (1ST) Programme of the European Union's Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) as part of the Go-Digital initiative.

"We recognised the long term importance of SMEs to regional economies throughout Europe, " says Colin Piddington, e-POWER project co-ordinator. "We also realised that, although they might have good business networks, there was a potential need for them to be able to tap into the opportunities available across Europe. The e-POWER project has established a Europe-wide network that links regional technology centres together encouraging knowledge transfer. …
