Companies Still Failing to Unlock Web Potential

In our July/August issue (starting on page 14), we featured an article by Tony Smith of management consultancy Charteris Ltd on the importance of outsourcing the creation and execution of your Internet facility to professionals.

A new survey has now reaffirmed how vital it is to make your website work for you.

Over half of companies are failing to use their own web sites to market themselves properly according to the survey by FreeTel, a company that provides Internet services to small businesses.

Despite the growth of e-commerce, many companies fail to list their products and services on their web sites and could consequently be missing sales opportunities.

The vast majority of Internet usage - some 94% of companies are using e-mail - is still not malting the most of e-commerce opportunities for direct selling of a company and its products or services.

In addition, the survey reveals that only a quarter of companies bar access to unsuitable web sites by their employees. When questioned, nearly 70% of managers saw this as a potential area for future problems. …
