Previous experience

In my past life I have done many things. I started life as a primary school teacher, moved on to youth work with disadvantaged young people and then became a Community Education worker, all in the UK.

In 1989 I moved to Kuwait with my husband and family and taught in primary school, taught English as a Foreign Language at the British Council in Kuwait and then Saddam invaded. I returned to the UK with the family and started work as Manager of a Community Education Team in Sunderland. In 1993 I joined my husband in Bahrain and worked at the British Council as an English teacher and co-ordinator for Young Learners. I also upgraded my Teaching Diploma to a BA Hons, researching the role of the teaching assistant in the classroom.

In 1996 my husband's company moved to Dubai, UAE and of course I moved too! I taught Business Studies (GNVQ) and English Language at a tertiary college and then moved to the British Council where I taught, supported the part-time staff, developed in-service training and also had a marketing role. …
