The Episcopal Church Foundation has occupied a unique place in the Episcopal Church since it was first organized by the then Presiding Bishop, Henry Knox Sherrill. Composed of lay people who are concerned for the good of the Church in many areas, it has been especially important in fostering theological education through its fellowship program for graduate study by Episcopalians. Over the years, many Episcopalians now teaching in theological seminaries and universities, as well as others in parish ministry, have received financial support from the Foundation. This issue of the Anglican Theological Review bears witness to this important work of the Foundation, for it gathers together a group of former Foundation Fellows for the first time to reflect upon theological questions now facing the Episcopal Church and all churches. The participants have produced distinguished papers and responses, and we at the ATR consider it a privilege to have been invited to make those papers and responses more generally available to the academic theological community and to all subscribers to the journal throughout the Anglican Communion and elsewhere. As Bishop Griswold says in his opening remarks, this undertaking by the Foundation will encourage and contribute to the theological work that the Episcopal Church is called to do in these crucial times. We thank the Revd Dr. Eugene Lowe for his work as guest editor and we appreciate the intellectual insight and wisdom he has brought to this issue. We hope this will be the first of other joint ventures.

In addition to the papers and responses from the Fellows Forum, this issue includes the articles, reviews, and poetry which are a regular feature of the journal and which contribute significantly to theological learning and reflection. …
