EYE-OPENING

Great job on the splendid edition of Generations, "Abuse and Neglect of Older People" (Summer 2000). Working directly with caregivers of Alzheimer's disease for over the past 5 years, I have always been surprised that in midst of extraordinary hardship and burden, I did not witness caregiver abuse or neglect that is so readily portrayed in media examples. In fact, the article "Elder-Abuse Offenders: A Typology" by Holly Ramsy-Klawsnik was quite eye-opening as it described five offender types and dispelled the myth of the overburdened caregiver as the primary form of elder abuse.

It was refreshing seeing something in print that was more reflective of my own real-world experiences. The other informative articles were also helpful in providing an overview of this complex and often misunderstood area. This edition is a keeper.
