The Roman de toute chevalerie (DEAF siglum: ThomKentF) is important both as an Anglo-Norman text (of considerable lexical significance: cf. RLiR 44 (1980), 69) and as a part of the jigsaw puzzle of medieval Alexander material. Perhaps because it is Anglo-Norman, it has been somewhat overlooked and its appearance in this new Champion series is thus to be welcomed. The text here is that of the Foster/Short ANTS edition, with facing translation, a substantial (primarily literary) introduction, glossary, and index of proper names. A good bibliography complements the introduction, although again its emphasis is firmly on literary aspects of the text, presumably on the grounds that this corresponds to the likely interests of the supposed readership. …
