This valuable volume of studies is a by-product of an international project to assemble an inventory of the hagiographic sources of northern France before the year 1000 (SHG), directed by Francois Dolbeau, Martin Heinzelmann, and JosephClaude Poulin. Its interest, however, is by no means confined to Latinists with a specialist interest in French hagiography, although these will find here a rich assembly of new materials relating to the dioceses of Toul, Metz, and Verdun (with an edition of the Life of St Aper), Brittany (with a repertory of Lives from the eighth to the twelfth centuries), Hainaut (a study and edition of the Lives of St Humbert of Maroilles), as well as studies of the Lives of St Ouen, Bishop of Rouen, and St Zoilus of Cordoba. …
